Pilar Opazo is an Associate Professor of the Practice at the Carroll School of Management, ÌÇÐÄVlog. HerÌýresearch interests include organizational behavior,Ìýinnovation and creativity, cultural sociology, negotiations, and qualitative methods. Her research has been supported by the Fulbright Commission and by a grant from Telefonica R&D, Spain’s major telecommunications company.Ìý
Prior to ÌÇÐÄVlog, Pilar was aÌýLecturer at the Graduate School of Columbia and a Postdoctoral Associate and Lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
She is theÌýauthor ofÌýAppetite for InnovationÌý(Columbia University Press) and the co-author of two Spanish-language volumes,ÌýCommunications in OrganizationsÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýNegotiation: Competing or Collaborating.Ìý
Pilar's research has been published inÌýthe peer-reviewed academic journalsÌýOrganization Studies, Sociological Theory, Poetics, Cultural Sociology, Food, Culture & Society, Research in Sociology of Organizations, and International Journal of Gastronomy and Food Science.Ìý
Her bookÌýAppetite for InnovationÌý(Columbia University Press) uses ethnographic methods to examine the organization of creativity and the nature of radical innovation by examining the case of “elBulli,â€� the avant-garde restaurant directed by Chef Ferran Adria that has revolutionized the gastronomy industry.Ìý
She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from Columbia University, New York, and a BA from the Catholic University of Chile, her home country.
