Hans De Wit Fellowship

Partially funded with seed funding generously donated by聽, the Hans de Wit Fellowship was established in 2022 to support the academic mobility of early career researchers in the field of higher education studies.

Hans de Wit Fellows are affiliated with the Center for International Higher Education for one calendar year (September to August). During the year, Fellows are funded to travel to Boston for a three-month visit to CIHE. Throughout their affiliation, Fellows are entitled to access the online and physical library holdings of 糖心Vlog.聽During their time on campus, Fellows will also have the opportunity to engage with the broader 糖心Vlog community, including the network of other international visitors to our campus. In exchange, Fellows are expected to share their research expertise in some capacity during their affiliation (i.e. through our regular seminar series, with students in our MA program and/or via one of the Center鈥檚 publications).

Eligibility & Deadline

Any early career researcher in higher education studies (i.e. within five years of the completion of a doctoral degree) is eligible to apply. Preference will be given to applicants from marginalized backgrounds, including those with refugee status, those based in the Global South and those from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.

CIHE can welcome one Fellow per academic year. Fellowships run from September to August each year. Travel to campus should occur during the academic year (between September and June).

Applications are due by November 15 each year. Finalist candidates will be invited to interview with the CIHE leadership in January as part of the application process.

A Note on Generative AI

As the Hans de Wit Fellowship is fundamentally designed as a formative opportunity for early career researchers in the field of higher education studies, we are eager to understand who you are as a scholar through your application. It is therefore vital that all submitted materials reflect your own ideas and words. Your ability to communicate your own research articulately without the assistance of AI is central to our review, particularly because we will expect you to work independently on鈥攁nd publicly share鈥攜our proposed research during your time as a Fellow. We have found that strong applicants stand out not because of their polished English but because their scholarship has a unique trajectory and is clearly their own.聽

This policy is meant to serve you. AI tools can make writing sound generic and can misrepresent what you hoped to deliver. An application will be disregarded if we detect any inappropriate use of AI. If English is not your first language and you have used AI to support your writing, please verify with a colleague or mentor to ensure accuracy
